Nearly a hundred cartoon characters were created in the Warner Brothers studio, but the real success of Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies came from a few iconic cartoon characters, starting with Porky Pig, Wiley E. Coyote, the Road Runner, Daffy Duck and then Bugs Bunny. However, two of the most promising Looney Tunes characters were Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, or should I say Bugs Bunny vs. Daffy Duck?
Just as when most thought no other character could rival the stardom of Daffy, Warner Bros. had decided to push for new character, a witty and whacky rabbit that often tricks and fools his adversaries, Bugs Bunny.
Bugs Bunny was (officially) created in 1940 almost three years after the creation of Daffy Duck (1937). Bugs was a whacky but calm and cool cartoon character who somehow manages to take control of the situation no matter how dire it may seem, there were even times where he even manages to trick the biggest trickster Daffy Duck. However, Daffy never went down quickly and if it was anyone who could pull the prank on Bugs it certainly was Daffy (with the occasional Elmer Fudd). But nonetheless, these two often had their rivals which usually resulted with one coming out on top of the other.
But still, this begged to question, Bugs Bunny vs. Daffy Duck which one was actually better than the other? Was Bugs better than Daffy? Or was Daffy better than Bugs and If so, in what way? Maybe it’s a measure of popularity and cartoon appearances or maybe a measure of who came out on top more? Perhaps it’s just a matter of personal taste.
Having looked at facts and history, Bugs has had more appearances vs. Daffy Duck. This would indicate that during the active career of the two stars, Bugs maybe deemed a little more popular than Daffy. But perhaps that is not true; if it was then this post would be more about Bugs vs. Porky Pig rather than Bugs Bunny vs. Daffy Duck, because Porky Pig had a total of 159 cartoon appearances which are more than Daffy’s 133. However, reading various articles and trolling various Bugs vs. Daffy forums, the general debate of who was the best Looney Tune character always ended up in a battle of Bugs Bunny vs. Daffy Duck with voters given Bugs a small slight edge.
For now, I can’t officially declare a winner because I am not the voice to everyone’s opinion. But I can voice my opinion and my vote goes to the vexatious rabbit Bugs Bunny, mainly because I for one, like rabbits more than ducks and I find Bugs character to be more intriguing. Not to mention Bugs is the official mascot for Warner Bros. However; Instead of having my voice be the de-facto, I rather you viewers declare the winner in Bugs vs. Daffy. So if you wish to participate and support the battle of Bugs Bunny vs. Daffy Duck, please feel free to use the poll and select your favorite. Perhaps with this article we can finally determine who the real king of Looney Tunes is.

Daffy Duck FTW !
Bugs is just a highschool-like wise guy. Daffy Duck has undergone many changes and is more flexible than Bugs. People prefer Bugs because he is a rabbit and rabbits are traditionally cuter than ducks…even though in reality they are stupid, annoying, ugly and poo a lot. It even got to a point where WB didn’t even have to come up with a story for Bugs, all they had to do was put Elmer or someone else to catching Bugs who would totally outsmart them on every level. Daffy on the other hand is so volatile and flexible he could be both a hero and a villain, and this alone makes him funnier than Bugs.
The best way to see which of them is funnier is to team them up with other characters and see if they’re still funny; can Bugs team up with someone and still be funny ? No, because that’s his thing…he has to outsmart everyone, there’s no room for another star in his episodes….but Daffy can team up with Elmer, Porky, Speedy, et al and still be funny and the star of the picture regardless of whether or not he pokes fun at others or is the one being poked fun at.
In a nutshell:
Daffy = more volatile, more flexible, has a wider scope of emotions.
Bugs = predictable, always doing the same thing; outsmarting everyone. Maybe this wouldn’t be so unfunny had WB made Bug’s rivals SMARTER. Even by cartoon standards, Bug’s rivals are SO stupid it’s just annoyingly unfunny.
If you place bugs with other characters he still turns out to be funny. Let’s not forget he did win an academy award back in 1959.
